What are you working on right now?

After recently hosting Veuve Clicquot winemaker Gaëlle Goossens in Chicago for a handful of events around International Women’s Day, where she shared the inspiring story of Madame Clicquot, I am now working on exciting activations surrounding other special visitors from our maisons in France coming to town. We have an intimate “BYOK” (Bring Your Own Krug) event that is in the works, and we were thrilled to present the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge hosted by GuildSomm with the one and only Frédéric Panaïotis, chef des caves for Maison Ruinart, at the MCA in April. Contemporary art has been at the core of the Maison since its founding in 1729, and we are thrilled to continue developing and promoting our own art de vivre with our long-term sponsorship of EXPO Chicago on Navy Pier in September as well.

When you look back on your career so far, what are the moments that you are most proud of?

I am really proud of the moment when I made the difficult decision as a young professional to take a drastic cut in pay to pursue my passion in an entirely new industry, and moved across the country to Boston to take on my first role in the wine industry. It was tough for three years, but it gave me the most incredible tasting experience with some of the world’s best wines and exposure to an amazing network. I look at that 22-year-old and I think, ‘thank you for paying your dues!’

What is your favorite quote or motto?

‘Little by little,’ as stated by my father, all the time.  

Who is your mentor or muse?

My father. He took a huge risk at a very early age to pursue his passion and fulfill his entrepreneurial spirit by starting a business when my two older siblings were just babies. His life experience, work ethic and kind demeanor shapes his wisdom both personally and professionally. He and my mother raised a family of six while growing his manufacturing company through its 40-year history, ‘little by little.’

Name your No. 1 life-changing, aha moment.

This was certainly my first personal solo trip to Asia. At that point, I felt like I could go anywhere and do anything I wanted. I could, and I do.

What sets your soul on fire?

Music. I am so thankful for my parents for getting me involved in piano lessons at age 2. It is my creative outlet and stress relief, and nothing brings me more pleasure than to play or to listen. 

What is your biggest regret?

Sincerely no regrets. All learnings or stepping stones.

What is your biggest challenge (personal or professional) that you work on every day?

Like so many of us, it’s finding balance. The balance for me right now may be 90 percent professional and 10 percent personal, but learning to recognize and accept what is comfortable on any given timeline is key. 

Give us one word that best describes how you live your life.

Self-amusingly.
